Still beavering away on my sewing machine, getting ready for the Chiswick Summer Fair this Saturday.
I absolutely adore this vintage fabric which I bought from a US ebay seller a good few years ago now. Apart from using some to make a baby blanket, long since sold and no photos sadly, I've kept it hoarded away. I don't know much about it's provenance but I'm guessing it's from the thirties or forties.
In the midst of making some patchwork bibs, I suddenly had the notion to make a child's cushion with this print. I fused some lightweight interfacing to both the vintage fabric, which is cotton and the pale blue linen, I teamed it with, to give it a bit more body and then lined the whole cover as per usual. It closes with an invisible zip tucked down at the bottom.
Have been chasing the light today to try and shoot some decent photos of various WIPs but to no avail, the cushion is actually much "fresher" looking in the flesh.
I also added some ric rac trim and a bit of machine embroidery, using some vintage green cotton thread to add a bit of extra interest to the plain linen - not sure I would repeat the embroidery if I decide to make any more, we'll just have to see what the reaction is on Saturday .....
